I love the smell of a rose. It reminds me of my hero my grandmother "Gummie".

My Hero
The reason my grandmother (we called Gummie) is my hero is because she was so strong and kind. She was born in a home in the middle of no where, when she was 6 months old
she was lying in a crib upstairs as the house caught on fire, her mom ran downstairs to see what was going on. An Aunt said where is the baby and ran up to get her.
When she was a teenager she had to have an operation and had it right on the dining room table and in the middle of that operation, she woke up. She became a teacher of a one room school. She married a man 20 years older that her family wasn't to happy about. She later had 3 children and was living in Ohio. Her oldest son was 23 years old and just got out of the merchant marines a few weeks before and while driving got in an accident and hit a tree head on. He was in the hospital for a while in a coma. gummie decided to start working in the kitchen to help pay the bill. She worked hard and became one of the first License Practical Nurses in Ohio.
When she retired from nursing that summer she decided to go to Nova scotia for the summer and she decided to take a 12 year old granddaughter (me), we meet everyone she knew friends, relatives and I heard all the stories and saw all the places important to her. During that summer she asked me a 12 year old if I would take care of her when she was old and dying. i said yes. yearrs later they called me and said they were going to put her in a nursing home and said would i want her. I said of course i would take her. I had promised her so long ago. She died in my home and it was a special time that the two of us had the last 10 months of her life.
10 years later I got to do the same for my dad, a man who also went against the grain to live life the way he believed he should. I have drawn so much from these two people that will make me do the same. To live the way my gut tells me to go. i will try to follow theur path.
Gummie used to say the cutest little poem. backward oh backward, time in my flight. Make me a child again just for the night! I miss them both, but would have to say that gummie was and always will be my hero.

Poem my grandmother loved
Where did you come from Baby Dear?
Where did you come from baby dear?
Out of the everywhere, into the here.
Where did you get your eyes so blue?
Out of the sky when I came through.
What makes your forehead so smooth and high?
A soft hand stroked it as I went by.
What makes your cheek like a warm, white rose?
Something better than anyone knows.
Where did you get that pearly ear?
God spoke, and it came out to hear.
How did they all just come to be you?
God thought about me and so I grew.
But how did you come to us Baby Dear?
God thought of you, and so I am here.

Reason, Season and Lifetime
..
People always come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.
..
When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
or to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
...
Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
...
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away.
Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
...
When people come into your life for a SEASON,
it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall,
the season eventually ends.
...
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway);
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.
Thank you for being part of my life.
